MRH Early Childhood Center Teaches Service Projects to Youngest Learners
This year K/1 teachers Carrie Elledge and Ann McLauglin began an after school club called the Kindness Club. This unique after school program helps to develop strong, caring citizens in the MRH schools and community. The club has already done a great deal of work including: holiday cards for the residents at Laclede Senior Living, a mitten drive for ECC students, Caroling for a Cause to raise funds for Mosaic Services, assisting building and grounds with routine housekeeping duties, and making Valentines for Veterans. Carrie Elledge said, "We have made every effort to include reading, writing, fine motor, social skills, citizenship and service into our lessons." The students studied what philanthropy looks like at the primary level by examining the three T's: treasure, time and talent. The group is looking forward to working in the garden and doing some outside activities this spring. Kindness Club meets on Thursday's after school.
