Return of Farm Animal Program at MRH Early Childhood Center
The Farm Animal Program, which began in May 2011 as an extension of the District’s renowned “Seed to Table” program, will continue this spring at the Maplewood Richmond Heights Early Childhood Center. This is one of many programs that the District has implemented in recent years that aims to teach students and their families about health, healthy lifestyle choices, sustainability, and to provide a deep understanding of where their food comes from.
Seed to Table program is comprised of four gardens at the district to help educate students about the natural world around them. The focus is on nature, life cycles, and nutrition, and students are immersed in health literacy throughout the garden curriculum.
With the sponsorship of S. M. Wilson & Co., the District will be bring sheep, rabbits, donkeys, a calf and a turkey to the ECC for weeks at a time.
The Farm Animal Program utilizes a garden along with a nearby field and barn as an interactive student-learning center for animal health and care, symbiotic relationships with humans, nutrition and more.
