ECC Welcomes Darion Murdock as its New Assistant Principal
The Maplewood Richmond Heights School District is pleased to announce the selection of Darion Murdock as the new assistant principal and federal programs coordinator at Early Childhood Center. Murdock will begin his duties July 1, 2016.
Since August 2010, Murdock has been the lead teacher at Cool Valley Elementary School in the Ferguson Florissant School District where he functioned in an administrative capacity assisting the school’s principal. Prior to his time there, he was the lead teacher at Confluence Academy Old North for six years. He holds a B.S. in elementary education from Harris Stowe State University, and a M.A. in school administration and education specialist certificate from Lindenwood University.
“Darion will be a wonderful addition to our district and to the students and staff at the ECC,” said MRH Superintendent Karen I. Hall. “As our Early Childhood Center campus continues to expand, this new position will allow us to continue meeting the needs of our students and ensure their academic success.”
The new assistant principal position was created to address the tremendous growth at the ECC, which is currently the only MRH school with only one administrator. Enrollment there is presently over 400 students – an increase of nearly 110% in since 2005. In addition, to ease overcrowding at the Elementary School, the 2nd grade classes will move to the ECC beginning in the 2017-2018 school year and raise the ECC’s enrollment to over 500 students.
The District has eliminated and/or reorganized three administrative positions in past years resulting in annual savings over $300,000. Additionally, numerous support staff positions have been eliminated or combined with other positions to achieve cost savings.
“Our district continues to grow and we are committed to run as efficiently as possible by positioning our resources and staff to maintain small class sizes and provide the personalized and differentiated classroom instruction that will foster our students’ success,” noted Hall.
