Food Drive Underway

Maplewood Richmond Heights Elementary recognizes a number of character traits throughout the school year. One of those character education traits is Service to Others.  To demonstrate what “Service to Others” looks like, elementary students will be collecting canned and boxed food items to donate to our local food pantry.

“We are having a contest this year for the food drive,” says Elementary counselor Mary Darst, who along with Jane Hornby is coordinating the project. “The idea this year is to have grade level competitions which will:  a) bring out the competitive spirit across the grade levels and boost the total number of items and b) determine which grade level earns the service trip to help deliver, sort and see the behind-the-scenes production of a food pantry.”

Collection boxes have been placed in each grade level pod. Donations will be tallied every week and announced at Friday gathering. The winning grade level will be announced Dec. 16 so that the items can be delivered to the pantry before students leave for break.

The Food Drive will run from November 1 to December 21.
