MRH Elementary Chess Team Wins First Place

“In chess, never judge the playing strength of your opponent by what he looks like,” says Chess Coach Ben Simon. “If you do, that 5-year old is going to embarrass you.”

The MRHE Chess Team outplayed 10 other squads in the Gateway Chess League Fall Open, bringing home the First Place trophy in the 6th Grade and Under Division.
The tournament, held on Saturday, November 19 at Washington Middle School in Washington, Missouri, was the team’s first of the year.  The trophy is now on display in the MRHE Library. In addition to the first place win, fourth grader Josh Goldberg received a medal for his total points earned.

Chess Team members who participated in the tournament were Salem Bussey, Gabe Leavy, Mason Kramer, Malik Stewart, Josh Goldberg and Freeman Reinhold.
