Planning for the Grand Jury Announcement
Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s):
The Maplewood Richmond Heights School District is dedicated to ensuring our schools continue to be a safe place for our students to learn and staff to work. This is a responsibility that we take very seriously. With the assistance of our local law enforcement officials, we are closely monitoring the recent protests in St. Louis and the forthcoming announcement of the grand jury’s decision.
At this time we do not anticipate any issues directly affecting our campuses. However, should any event arise that could impact the well being of our students or staff, we have comprehensive plans and procedures that will be implemented to ensure the security of all individuals. Our primary concern is keeping students and staff safe. Every effort will be made to keep school in session to provide our students with continued learning opportunities.
Please know that there will be two key factors that drive any decision we make to change our school schedule. First, we are ready to take any necessary action to ensure the safety of our students and staff, both at school and on their way home from school. Secondly, activity in our region may also cause logistical or operational considerations that may necessitate a change in our school schedule.
Possible schedule changes could include a late start, closing for the day, or early dismissal. Any changes to our schedule will be made for the entire District, not individual schools. We will also recall any students and staff who are out of their buildings on field trips should school be in session when the announcement is made. Additionally, we will carefully monitor after-school and evening activities should the announcement be made late afternoon or early evening.
Closing and/or emergency notifications are sent through the District’s robocall system and posted on the MRH website, Facebook pages, and Twitter accounts. We also post school closings on area television stations.
We will keep you informed of any pertinent updates as we receive them. If at any time you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Central Office or your building administrator.
