Looking at Conservation through Water Usage

The eighth grade kicked off October with a week long expedition. Activities included tours of the Bissell Water Treatment Plant, Melvin Price Lock and Dam, and Riverlands for bird migration pattern and collecting seeds and so much more. Students also created a Carbon Footprint pledge through anart integration project, visited two urban gardens, and collected data through fish sampling at the Bellefontaine Conservation Area.

When the students were not in the field they were working on their Expressions of Freedom Contest where students entered poetry, photography, and videos into a national contest.  Students also worked on their Carbon Footprint Pledge, in which they made promises to self, school, and community to reduce their carbon footprint.  Look for their pledges and artwork in the eight grade hallway soon!

Through all of these experiences and projects students we able to explore, in a meaningful manner, how water shapes so much of a community's growth and how our community's choices concerning water have a huge impact on the local environment.
