BotBall 2013 Begins!

What is BotBall you may ask? Botball, sponsored by NASA and iROBOT among others, is a competition that according to botball.org:

“engages middle and high school aged students in a team-oriented robotics competition, and serves as a perfect way to meet today’s new common core standards. By exposing students to an inquiry-based, learn-by-doing activity that appeals to their hearts as well as their minds, Botball addresses our nation’s need for a well-prepared, creative, yet disciplined workforce with leadership and teamwork experience.”

On February 13th, the MRH Middle School Botball team had their first meeting at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to begin to learn the fundamentals of programing their robots for the competition which will begin on April 20th, 2013.  This year’s theme is the “Mars Sample Return Mission.”  Students will program their autonomous robots to perform various tasks related to the Curiosity Mars sample return mission such as: sky crane operation, rocket refueling, and placing samples in the transporter.  See the video below for more specific mission information:
