What's your Heart Rate?
This month MRHMS unveiled the long anticipated Cardio GX heart rate monitor system in all PE classes. The system is designed to take group fitness to a whole new levelby providing immediate fitness data feedback to all participants at the same time. On select days students will equip themselves with a “peanut” (transmitter) and participate in a predetermined workout. The Cardio GX system will log individual fitness data and project that information onto a screen or wall so that the whole class can see what their
current fitness levels are at any given moment. Mr. Harbaugh, MRHMS Physical Education Teacher,
commented, “As we encourage students to develop their understanding of lifetime fitness, it is important that students understand how their heart rate and other data relates to their physical fitness.” Students get the type of feedback that committed fitness athletes expect to see when working out. The display indicates heart rate (BPM), percentage of max heart rate, and total calories burned. In addition, the background color changes depending on the exercise zone the participant is in. We are really excited about this new technology at MRHMS!
