Special Message Regarding Back to School and Student Transfers
Karen I. Hall
On behalf of the Board of Education, and myself, I want to welcome everyone back for the 2013-2014 school year at Maplewood Richmond Heights. Our first day for K-12 students is Tuesday, August 13. We are proud of the many accomplishments we’ve made together and look forward to the future and continuing to provide the highest level of education for our children.
MRH is known throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area, and beyond, as a district that is a shining example of inclusiveness and diversity. This year we have the privilege of welcoming students who are transferring to MRH from the Normandy and Riverview Gardens school districts. This summer the Missouri Supreme Court issued an opinion requiring accredited school districts located in St. Louis County or any adjoining county to admit students who currently reside within the two unaccredited schools districts in St. Louis County - Normandy and Riverview Gardens.
Over the past few weeks, MRH has joined with the Cooperating School Districts of Greater St. Louis (CSD) and a number of area school districts, in a common application process for students who seek to transfer to an accredited school district. As of today, we are planning to welcome 40 new students into our MRH family. We are honoring guidelines from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and abiding by our Board of Education and our community’s desire to maintain small class sizes. The 40 students are evenly distributed across all grade levels and the Normandy and Riverview Gardens districts will be paying MRH tuition costs for their students.
This increased enrollment will not alter MRH’s commitment to provide every student – both those who reside here and those who transfer to MRH - a high quality education. Our goal has been, and will continue to be, to do what is in the best interest of all our students.
I know you will join us in welcoming our new students and families to MRH. Together, we will continue to enrich the lives of our children and provide the foundation for their many future successes in life.
