MRH Students Artwork Published in Local Book
Nine Maplewood Richmond Heights School District students’ and pieces of their artwork were recently featured in a locally published book. The book, What Grown-Ups Need to Know About Art Therapy for Kids, is a readable guidebook for any adult who is interested in supporting a child who is engaged in art therapy or art-making in general. The book includes various examples of art and a significant number of the artists are from the MRH Middle and Elementary Schools.
Written by author, Kim L. Anderson, the book is intended for any adult who is dealing with a child in treatment. Anderson is a licensed clinical social worker, board certified art therapist, supervisor and educational consultant. She shares her insights and suggestions from over 30 years of work with children and families, schools and organizations. Included in the book is detailed information and art examples from students at local area schools. The book is available on Amazon.
“Anderson expressed that she would love to incorporate our student’s artwork into her book. She does a lot of work around stereotypes and self perception and that closely aligns with part of my curriculum. I encourage my students to often times self reflect and express their own self perception in open studio so I had more than enough pieces of art to share with her,” says Kari Schepker- Mueller, Middle School art teacher.
