MRH Chef Robert Rusan Named a ‘2015 School Nutrition Hero’

Chef Robert The Maplewood Richmond Heights School District is proud to announce the School Nutrition Association (SNA) has named MRH Chef Robert Rusan a 2015 School Nutrition Hero. Rusan, based at the MRH Middle/High School campus, is one of five school nutrition professionals from across the country to be awarded this prestigious honor.

School Nutrition Heroes are honored for making a difference in the lives of students and families; applying their skills in the their local community to help feed others; positively impacting the lives of coworkers, employees, and peers in school nutrition; and using knowledge, skills, and abilities to benefit others in their school, district, community and beyond.

The School Nutrition Association is a national, nonprofit professional organization representing more than 55,000 members who provide high-quality, low-cost meals to students across the country to foster an environment where children achieve overall wellness and lifelong success.

“We are so excited for Chef Robert to receive this honor from his national peers,” said MRH Superintendent Karen I. Hall. “He is an integral part in the innovative and healthy food program we have in our District.”

MRH has always been committed to the health and well being of its students. The district meets this goal in a number of ways, but having healthy food is central to this belief. In addition to providing healthy food, free breakfast to all students, using locally grown and fresh produce, the District also helps teach students about nutrition and healthy food choices through its Seed to Table and Teen Kitchen programs.

The 2015 School Nutrition Heroes:

  • Coletta Hines-Newell, Director of Food Services, Arlington Heights School District 25, Arlington Heights, Illinois
  • Jill Kidd, MS, RD, Director of Nutrition Services, Pueblo City Schools, Pueblo, Colorado
  • Cathy Potter, Cafeteria Server/Helper, Maryville City Schools, Maryville, Tennessee
  • Robert Rusan, District Chef, Maplewood Richmond Heights School District, Maplewood, Missouri
  • Nancy Younglove, Food Service Director, North Rose – Wolcott Central Schools, Wolcott, New York

The 2015 School Nutrition Heroes will be honored on March 2, 2015, at the School Nutrition Foundation Celebration in Washington, D.C, which is held annually in conjunction with the Association’s Annual Legislative Action Conference.
