How You Can Watch Wednesday's MRHMS Green School Ceremony in Washington, D.C.
Watching the July 19 ceremony honoring Maplewood Richmond Heights Middle School for its sustainability initiatives is as easy as logging on to your favorite device.
A team of staffers from MRHMS will travel to the U.S. Department of Commerce to accept the honor, which was announced in May.
MRHMS was nominated by the Missouri Green Schools program for its leadership in developing innovative programming and learning surrounding the unique sustainability needs in an urban area. The school provides a rich curriculum that integrates gardens, aquaponics, urban chickens, beehives, composting, and a rain garden. At the core of their work is a belief that sustainable schools and communities provide all members the greatest opportunities for success.
The celebration in the nation's capitol begins with keynote speakers at 1 p.m. Central time. You can watch via the U.S. Department of Education's Facebook page: www.facebook.com/ed.gov
Across the country, 45 schools, nine districts, and nine postsecondary institutions are being honored for their innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, improve health and wellness, and ensure effective sustainability education.
The two other Missouri Green Ribbon Schools for 2017 are McKelvey Elementary School in Maryland Heights, and Parkway North High School in St. Louis. Only two other schools have received this award in the past: Crossroads College Preparatory School and The College School.
