ECC to Host “Be the Match” Bone Marrow Registry
The MRH Early Childhood Center will host a “Be the Match” bone marrow registry drive on February 16, 2012 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. in the gymnasium. To join the registry participants will have a cheek swab taken which generally takes 15 minutes.
The drive is in honor of an MRH student, Katelyn, who was diagnosed with B-cell lymphoma in December 2010. Katelyn, who is now seven years old, completed treatment last summer and spent five months cancer free. In November 2011 her cancer returned in her spine and brain. Katelyn has started treatment again, which includes chemotherapy, radiation, and ultimately a bone marrow transplant (scheduled at the end of February).
Participants will be joining the national registry and are not being tested exclusively for a particular individual.
To join, all you need is to:
- Be between the ages of 18 and 60
- Be willing to donate to any patient in need
- Meet the health guidelines
