ECC & ELEM Donate to “Friends of Kids with Cancer” Organization
A Maplewood Richmond Heights Elementary parent has recently led the kindergarten and third grade classes in a service learning art project. A preschool student at the Early Childhood Center was diagnosed with cancer, and these two classes worked together to make bracelets. These bracelets were made in order to raise funds for this student's family as well as a local organization, “Friends of Kids With Cancer”.
Friends of Kids with Cancer is devoted to enriching the daily lives of children undergoing treatment for, and survivors of, cancer and blood -related diseases. Their mission is to be an advocate for these special kids and provide them and their families with the educational, emotional, and recreational support needed as a result of the long hours of chemotherapy, illness and isolation. During the summer, students also held a lemonade stand to benefit this same organization.
This past week, these classes sold child and adult-sized bracelets in the staff lounge and around the school. All of bracelets and the paper backing were designed and made by MRHE and ECC students.
They raised $267.32 to donate to "Friend of Kids with Cancer".
