MRH Seed to Table Benefits from Cardinals Jersey Raffle
The Seed to Table programs at MRH schools got a major gift Wednesday, courtesy of the Maplewood Kiwanis Club.
The Kiwanians obtained a St. Louis Cardinals jersey signed by perennial fan favorite, catcher Yadier Molina, and sold raffle tickets throughout the summer. The big winner was Alexis Miano, mother of MRH 7th grader Salvador Miano and a big-time MLB buff. The Miano family claims to attend anywhere from 30 to 40 games per season.
With $500 in proceeds, the Kiwanis Club chose to gift the money to the Seed to Table programs at Maplewood Richmond Heights Schools. S2T, as it's often abbreviated, is woven into the curriculum at every grade level and teaches kids how to plant, nurture, and cultivate fruits, vegetables, and flowers, and provides lessons on best nutritional practices and sustainability.
On hand for the check presentation were MRH Superintendent Karen Hall, S2T instructors Melissa Breed-Parks and Jessica Mathis, Kiwanis members Phil Johnson and Barry Greenberg (also mayor of Maplewood), and sports memorabilia broker Tom Morbelli.
