MRH ECC Parent Update, April 6, 2020

Maplewood Richmond Heights Early Childhood Center

Dear Parents,

I hope this update finds you and your family well. On Wednesday of this week, we will begin to offer new learning opportunities for our K/1/2 students through our on-line curriculum platform called, It's Learning.

On Tuesday, we will share a video to explain how you can log on to this system and the path your child will take to find learning opportunities in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, as well as, Art, Music, P.E., & Seed to Table. A specific lesson will be offered in each subject area for the week. This will be different than the first 10 days where we offered review lessons in every area for each of the 10 days. Hopefully, this will be a more manageable plan for families. Please watch your email for video!

Our preschool teachers will continue to offer their program in the same manner they have since the school closure began.

Wishing good health to all of our families,

Cynthia Hebenstreit, PhD Principal

Remote Learning Opportunities -- March 31, 2020

Maplewood Richmond Heights Early Childhood Center

Dear Parents,

I want to thank all of our parents for sharing their appreciation, as well as, questions with our staff regarding the learning opportunities we have provided during the current school closure. Teachers are sharing this feedback with us and we are doing our best to respond to the information and using it to inform our next steps as we roll out new learning opportunities on Wednesday, April 8, 2020. Please watch for news about what this will look like for ECC families.

Families still needing a K/1/2 paper packet for the initial 10 days of review lessons, may pick up packets at the ECC on the porch under the overhang at the main entry (see photos below).

Preschool parents wanting a paper copy of the resources sheet for preschool activities will also find a bin of copies in the same location.

Wishing good health to all of our families,

Latest MRH ECC Parent Update

Maplewood Richmond Heights Early Childhood Center

To our Preschool & Discover Club Families,

Thank you to all of our families that participate in our fee based programs for your patience regarding information about how the district closure will impact future payments and/or refunds of advanced payments.

Our District Business office has confirmed that we will not charge any fees for your child's attendance days during the school closure as a result of the covid19 pandemic.

My staff is working closely with our business office to determine the best process for refunding advanced payments for either of the fee based programs. If you pay tuition through the Direct Debit/ACH system, I want to confirm the district will not withdraw any additional funds during the school closure.

Next week, my staff will be contacting families to confirm how and when your family will receive eligible refunds.

Again, thank you for your patience and the trust you have placed in us to respond in a supportive manner to this most unexpected turn of events.

?Wishing good health to all of our families,

Cynthia Hebenstreit, PhD Principal

Update Letter to ECC Families

Maplewood Richmond Heights Early Childhood Center

Dear MRH ECC Families,

We hope you are holding up well during this unprecedented health crisis.  By now, many of you are likely aware of the Executive Orders by leaders in St. Louis County establishing stay-at-home restrictions beginning Monday, March 23. We as a school community are fortunate that the new Orders do not require the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District to alter or deviate from our original plan for continued learning and meal delivery which we sent to you earlier this week.

MRH is considered an “essential” institution under definitions issued by the St. Louis County Department of Health order:

“Schools and other entities that ordinarily provide food services to students or members of the public may continue to do so under this Order provided that the food is provided to students or members of the public on a pick-up and take-away basis only. Schools and other entities that provide food services under this paragraph shall not permit the food to be eaten onsite.”

Additionally, the Order defines “essential travel”:

“...travel to or from educational institutions for purposes of receiving materials for distance learning, for receiving meals, and any other related services…”

In other words, our plan for providing healthy school meals to our students is unchanged!

In Summary:

Starting Wednesday, March 25th, the District will be providing "To Go" meals for MRH students through Friday, April 3rd at each of our buildings. Meal pickup is between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm each weekday. This will be a curbside pick-up, so please remain in your vehicle. If you are walking, please maintain a 6-ft distance from our employees and we will assist you.

At the time of pickup, a packaged lunch for the day will be provided as well as a breakfast for the following day. If we are able to provide more meals at one time, we will do so and notify you at time of pick-up. Meals will be provided free of cost for all MRH students and you may visit one location for multiple students (ex. siblings who attend different buildings). Please have your student name(s) and ID(s) ready.

You may choose to fill out this online form to hopefully make this transaction smoother.

Meal Pick-up Locations:

  • MRH Early Childhood Center at the Front Entrance on the parking lot side
  • MRH Elementary at the east roundabout
  • MRH Middle/High at the Research & Design Center on Lohmeyer Avenue

If there are any concerns, please contact Irene Wan at irene.wan@mrhschools.net

Learning Materials & Medication Pickup:

Families will have an opportunity to pick up learning materials, and medications on Tuesday, March 24. Pick-up will occur between 3:00 and 7:00 p.m at the ECC as a drive through system. We have checked the number of paper copies being requested through our district survey, and feel we do not need to set specific grade level times for pick up.  When you pull into the parking lot and reach the staff member with a walkie talkie, we ask that you roll your window down, identify your child(ren’s) names and grade levels for which you are picking up paper packets and/or medication. When you reach the staff member on the upper lot, we will ask you to open your trunk/hatch door remotely, and we will place materials in your trunk or storage area in SUV’s/vans.  If you do not have anyone in the backseat, you could roll down the backseat window and we will place the packet/materials on the seat. If you are picking up medication, we will need you to sign for it and a member or our district healthcare team will return your child’s medication to you. Staff working the pick up lane will be wearing gloves for added protection. In the event of rain, we will have provisions for everything and everyone to remain dry throughout the process.

Staying Informed:

Please bookmark this link to the MRH website. In it, you will find:

  • A section devoted entirely to MRH’s action plan and community messages related to the health crisis. Look for the bright yellow bar on the home page.
  • A “SCHOOLS” tab with detailed information on remote learning procedures specific to your child’s school(s).
  • Daily updates from St. Louis County health authorities on the scope of the Covid-19 virus in this region.

All MRH schools, buildings and district offices remain closed through at least Sunday, April 5. If you need to reach us, please use the phone numbers and emails provided within the link above. We recommend email as the best form of contact, as many MRH employees are working from home.

Remote learning will begin on Wednesday, March 25.

Thank you for placing your trust in us. We are ready to continue our educational mission and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate this new educational endeavor.

Regards,

Cynthia Hebenstreit, PhD Principal & Cynthia Cobb, MEd Assistant Principal
