MRH ECC Parent Update: February 28

MRH Early Childhood Center

Black History Month

in the Virtual Art Studio

While ECC always embraces a visual arts curriculum filled with many cultures, we do take special pause in February to reflect on the contributions of African Americans to the Arts. This year we are going to take time to reflect on the written words of Amamda Gorman, the National Youth Poet Laureate who wrote and delivered the 2021 Presidential swearing in Inaugural Poem. Amanda captured the nation with her written word. Crafting a poem is art in itself. It is creative, expressive, has pattern and balance, just like visual art.

Together, in virtual classes, children will discuss the links between the arts, writing, drama, dance and music. We will watch the Amanda Gorman poem recitation in its entirety. Portions of the poem will be broken down by class. Children will be asked to visually respond to her words. The images generated by the children will be gathered together into a video, representing the poem in moving images. The final project will be shared with the ECC community.

Black History Month inspires Ms. Koebel's class:

In celebration of Black History month, students in Ms. Koebel's class studied influential people in the areas of abolition, civil rights, science, athletics and art.

Students were all affected by the hardships and unfairness through each biography we read. They discovered that a similar turning point for many of our important Americans was the opportunity for an education.

One activity to solidify our new learning, was to consider what we would ask this person if we had the chance to talk to them. One student poses a question after being inspired during a biography on Frederick Douglass.

Students in Ms. Koebel's class practiced using descriptive

words to choose how to convince an audience of their "Best in Show" award from collections of animals. They posted their opinions and descriptions to practice anticipating disagreements when we write to persuade.?

Reminder: Wednesday, March 17th is a Student Attendance Day!

This message serves as a reminder that Wednesday, March 17 will be a student in-person attendance day. Normally, no on-campus classes take place on Wednesdays in Tier 2. However, March 17 will be a student attendance day because the MRH tiers plan specifies that weeks with only four days designated on the school calendar will be in-person student attendance on each of those four days. This is necessary in order to avoid losing a full day of valuable in-person instruction in the shortened school week.

There is no school on March 19. To ensure four in-person learning days, students will attend on Wednesday, March 17.

MRH ECC & MRH Elementary:

For students in the A.M. and P.M. groups in grades K-6, the on-campus attendance days for that week will be:

  • Monday, March 15
  • Tuesday, March 16
  • Wednesday, March 17
  • Thursday, March 18

MRH Middle School & MRH High School:

For grades 7-12 students, the same schedule applies. The on-campus attendance days for that week will be:

  • Monday, March 15 (“A” Day class schedule)
  • Tuesday, March 16 (“B” Day class schedule)
  • Wednesday, March 17 (“A” Day class schedule)
  • Thursday, March 18 (“B” Day class schedule)

MRH buses will run on Wednesday, March 17 as they would on normal attendance days.

ECC Car Rider/Walker Arrival/Departure Times & Revised Bus Schedules

Car Rider/Walker Arrivals & Departures:

Parents,

The first two days of student arrivals and departures went fairly smoothly. Hopefully, the following information will decrease wait times and prevent traffic from backing up onto Laclede Station Rd.

AM Session:

Arrival

Doors will open at 7:45 a.m. for student entry. Please do not arrive prior to 7:40 a.m. on the parking lot. Early arrivals actually cause congestion on the parking lot and create a back up.

Dismissal

Car Riders will begin entering cars at 10:55. Please do not arrive prior to 10:50 on the parking lot.

PM Session:

Arrival

Doors will open at 11:50 a.m. for student entry. Please do not arrive prior to 11:45 on the parking lot.

Dismissal

Car Riders will begin entering cars at 2:55. Please do not arrive prior to 2:50.

MRH ECC Parent Update: January 18, 2021

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's work

inspired ECC Students to

March for Kindness

Dear ECC Parents,

On January 25th, Option 1 students will return to in person learning in a hybrid model in either an AM session or a PM session. In order to prepare for the 25th, we are asking parents to click on the link below to indicate how your child will arrive and depart from school. Many parents have already completed this survey entitled, "Bus Transportation Survey" on the district web site. Now we are requesting parents to complete it as well if their child will be a car rider or walker. Please complete the form as soon as possible, so we can determine bus ridership and make signage for those departing by car or walking.

Yet this week, a welcome back video will be posted on the district web site and be sent via Constant Contact to share with parents what to expect at arrival and dismissal when students return to in person learning. Teachers are also sharing videos with their students to help prepare them for the return to school.

We are quite excited to have students back and we will do everything in our power to provide a safe, warm, and welcoming environment as your children return.
