MRH Earns 96.1% APR Score from MO Dept. of Elementary & Secondary Education
Today, the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) released its report cards on the academic health of Missouri school districts with their Annual Performance Reports (APR). The Maplewood Richmond Heights School District again received very high honors by receiving a score of 96.1% for 2015.
This is the fourth year of scores released under the Missouri School Improvement Program 5 (MSIP 5), which promotes continuous improvement within each district. According to DESE, of the 553 traditional public school districts and charter public schools with an APR, scores ranged from 28% to 100% with a state average of 90%.
“Once again, this exceptional score from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education shows how beneficial the differentiated and personalized instruction is to our diverse student population,” said MRH Superintendent Karen I. Hall. “Through innovation, unique programming, creative approaches, small class sizes, and wraparound services, we continually show that all students can succeed.”
One of the many highlights from the MRH APR shows that the percentage of MRH students scoring at the proficient or advanced level in state standardized tests continues to rise each year. Additionally, the ACT was taken by the entire 11th grade last year with an average score of 22.1 which exceeds the state and national average.
Under MSIP 5, a school district’s score on three consecutive APRs, along with other factors, is used to determine accreditation. Current MSIP 5 accreditation levels are:
Accredited with Distinction: 90% + additional criteria as yet to be determined by the Missouri State Board of Education (to be awarded in the future)
- Fully Accredited: 70% - 100%
- Provisionally Accredited: 50% - 69.9%
- Unaccredited: 0% - 49.9%
A district’s APR score is created from a wide range of data based on results from academic achievement, state standardized tests (MAP scores), subgroup achievement, high school readiness (K-8), college and career readiness (K-12), attendance, and graduation rates. The APR score provides a practical tool for the Board of Education, administrators, and teachers to identify strengths and needs in the District.
“Our team of teachers and administrators continue to use the information from our yearly APR score to make enhancements, increase the academic rigor for students, enrich and expand the curriculum, and improve classroom instruction,” said Hall. “We are already looking at ways to augment our AP class offerings in the High School and expand our post-secondary placement of graduates which will benefit our overall APR in future years.”
“We will always continue to push further, reach higher, and innovate to ensure every MRH student achieves at his or her highest possible level,” added Hall.
