I am so proud of the artwork that we have on display throughout our school. Recently, local St. Louis artist, Charlie Houska, loaned us numerous pieces to showcase. Additionally, today he came in to talk to 3rd graders about his field. The 3rd graders were so excited to have an expert come in and talk to them about art. They have been studying another artist that actually is part of Charlie’s inspiration.
Charlie also has a project called, “Houskaballoo,” in which he collaborates with students on mural projects in their schools. The focus of this project is to encourage children to be more involved in art and to think “big” with their work. The mural is on a 4‘ x 15’ canvas where the students participate in painting on it. My hope is to be able to bring this project to MRHE as well.
I am happy that Charlie was able to help us out and spark a new interest in our students! His “anything is possible” attitude is something admirable for our students to also see. His dream was to be able to successfully make a living off of doing what he loves--Art. With his background in advertising and art, he was able to do this very well. I am sure that his work and being present will inspire some of our students to follow their dreams.
