MRHE Family Update

Week of May 25, 2020

Have a GREAT summer!

MRH Elementary School

Phone: 314-644-4403  FAX: 314-644-0315

NEW: "Thank You" from Dr. Adams

Goodbye Video

NEW: Report Card and Class Placement Mailings

MRHE fourth quarter report cards and class placements for next year will be mailed on Friday, June 12th. Please expect a short delay in receiving them, as many delivery services, including the United States Postal Service, are experiencing some delays at this time.

Also, as a reminder, for the 4th Quarter Report Card we will not be using our typical 1 - 4 scale. Instead, we will provide a narrative statement describing your child’s progress on the priority standards we focused on for the 4th Quarter and sharing ideas of what can be done this summer. This approach will be consistent for grades Kindergarten through 6th Grade.

NEW: Pick-Up Meal Service Summer Dates

REMINDER: Plans to Pick Up Student Items and Return School Items

Despite what we originally thought was possible, over the past few weeks we have been able to empty student lockers and student desks in each classroom. In the process, we prepared pick up bags for each student with the materials we found in each child's locker and desk. Items found range from jackets and lunch boxes to binders and pencil cases.

In addition, we know that many of you may have MRH technology devices (Chromebooks) and library books that need to be returned.

Therefore, we are setting up two evenings for student item pick up and to return MRH materials. Please make note of how the pick up/drop off times are organized. We will only be collecting technology and library books during the pick up/drop event.

Tuesday, May 26th

2:00 - 4:00pm - Students with Last Names that begin with A - E should drop by during this time to pick up items and return items

4:00 - 6:00pm - Students with Last Names that begin with F - L should drop by during this time to pick up items and return items

Wednesday, May 27th

2:00 - 4:00pm - Students with Last Names that begin with M - R should drop by during this time to pick up items and return items

4:00 - 6:00pm - Students with Last Names that begin with S - Z should drop by during this time to pick up items and return items

Example: A student with the last name of "Adams" should come by on Tuesday the 26th from 2:00 - 4:00pm. A student with the name of "Smith" should come by on Wednesday the 27th from 4:00 - 6:00pm.

These pick up times are designed to respect your time and also minimize disruptions to traffic. However, if your family cannot drop by on your date or at your specified time, you may come by at any of the dates/times that are offered. For those that can, we ask you to come at your requested time.

All pick ups/returns will occur on the Glades Ave. side

of the building (the circle drive).

Summer Reading at Maplewood Public Library:

This year brings challenges to normal summer reading programs nationwide. Maplewood Public Library is having a summer reading program with a few changes. The library will not be open to come in to browse for books or attend programs, instead they will be doing prize pick up later in the summer with the date has yet to be decided. Students can track reading by printing this reading log and tracking daily reading on the calendar provided. No printer? Use any calendar to mark every day the participant has read at least 30 minutes. Prizes include a book, treasure box choices, and a raffle entry for every 20 days read. Extra raffle entries are earned by participating in challenges as well as viewing Facebook video story times & other online programs.

Fractured Fairy Tale Read-Alouds will post to video library at 1pm on Tuesdays, June 2 – July 21. No registration necessary, comment on the video to get a raffle ticket for viewing.

THE CELIA AND LITTLE CELIA SHOW, a one-of-a-kind musical puppetry experience featuring singalong favorites plus new music, and of course, Little Celia! This program will require pre-registration to get the link to a private YouTube page. You can view the video at your leisure the week of June 22-27.

With the new Hunger Games book release in May, we look forward to having a fun night of discussion and trivia with our 12-18-year old fans. Register to attend a Zoom party on Thursday, June 18 at 7pm.

Have you already read through the list of Mark Twain nominees for the 2020-2021 school year? Whether you have or not, on Thursday, July 9 at 3:30 pm gather with other 9-12 year olds to discuss the books on the list via Zoom.

Last but not least are the 5 special challenges for additional raffle entries. Instructions will be available via a video posted to Facebook & Instagram on the start date of the challenge. The first challenge will begin June 1. We will also have paper instructions available at the library once we begin curbside pickup, TBD. If you need instructions emailed, let us know.

Include participant’s name, age, and program link[s] needed.
