MS and HS to Host Parent Info Night on Proposed New Class Schedule

Dear MS and HS Families:

The MRH School District continues to grow each year as more families move into our community to be part of our school family. As you are aware, construction is now underway at the ECC to ease overcrowding there, and at the Elementary. Since last year, overall enrollment (Pre-K-12) has increased approximately 7% and our lower grades continue to grow and will soon reach our MS/HS campus. To give that deeper context, our average class size in grades 7-12 is 84 students while K-12 is 112 students, with some classes as large as 132.

To meet the needs of these larger cohort sizes the district has been studying ways to maximize our resources and efficiencies at the MS/HS campus while striving to continue to provide small class sizes and academic rigor. In addition, we want to provide additional and new class opportunities for both schools.

One of the ways we will achieve these goals is through the efficient use of staffing and physical spaces on the MS/HS campus with a new class schedule for the both schools. A committee of middle and high school teachers, principals, and other district administrators has been working diligently together to create a schedule that better uses our limited resources while enhancing student-learning opportunities.

After the committee completed its work, the proposed schedule was presented to the administration, full teaching staff, and Board of Education. Our next step is to share and gather feedback from our students and parents. Meetings are underway this week with students and we’ve scheduled a parent information night on Tuesday, March 28 at 7pm at the MS/HS (exact room is TBD). At the information session, families will have the opportunity to hear more about the proposed schedule and give feedback.

We hope you’ll be able to join us and learn more about this proposed change for our Middle and High School students. Together we will innovate, enhance, and preserve the high standards and quality educational instruction for our children now, and in the years to come.
