Students at MRH Middle School are immersed both inside and outside the classroom in a variety of experiences through the metaphor, “School as Expedition.”

Learning expeditions are in-depth studies of a topic that engage students through authentic projects, real-life studies, fieldwork, and service. Expeditions occur within the school walls when the community is brought into the classroom through expert guest speakers and outside of the classroom, as a journey to conduct fieldwork.

Hello MRHMS Families,

We understand that student expeditions are critical to how we deliver our learning at the middle school. We are working closely with public health officials to monitor the COVID-19 situation in the region. Our partners for our two major expeditions in Mississippi and Tennessee are doing the same with their local officials.

We regret to inform 8th grade families that University of Southern Mississippi and its satellite campuses have made the decision to restrict all groups until after April 30th.  This means our current 8th grade trip has been cancelled for the week of April 27th - May 1st.  We have already been in contact with the administration of the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory and University of Southern Mississippi to begin efforts to reschedule if possible. We understand that this will be a very tall task to reschedule buses, volunteers, family schedules, etc. but we will do what we can to make this possible for our students.

The 7th grade trip to the Great Smoky Mountain Institute at Tremont (GSMIT) is still scheduled as planned.  We have been in contact with GSMIT and will continue to communicate as the situation in both regions evolves.  GSMIT will continue to work with the National Park Service and Center for Disease Control to inform their decisions for closure.

We very much appreciate your understanding and patience in this matter.
