Wrestling Team Collects Items to Support the Troops
The high school wrestling team is hosting a chili dinner on Jan. 5 from 4:30-6:00pm at the MRH Café (7539 Manchester Rd.). The dinner and activities are part of the team’s “Wrestling for Our Warriors,” a service mission to support the Thundering Third, a marines regiment currently serving a tour of duty in Afghanistan.
The 11-member team, along with managers and coach Chris Meyer, are collecting socks, toothpaste, books, snacks and more for the marines (see list here). Their goal is to have a package for each member of the battalion. The drive ends Jan. 25.
The team kicked off their drive at a ceremony on Veterans Day at the high school. Since then they challenged classmates and staff to collect items, which will be shipped in late January.
The boys selected The Thundering Third when they found out that high school teacher Christina Steffen’s son Alex was stationed there. You can see an ABC News report about the battalion here.
Members of the community who wish to donate items or help pay for the cost of shipping the packages are asked to contact Coach Meyer.
