MRH School District Hosts Community-wide Ice Cream Social

With the conclusion of another great year for the district, and an eye on next year, the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District is hosting a community-wide ice cream social on Sunday, June 6 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

The free event gives parents, students, and community members a chance to say “good-bye” to the outgoing principals and to meet the new, incoming principals. In addition, there will be games, activities, live music provided by the Blue Devil Big Band, and lots of ice cream.

The games and activities include Uberdarts, bean bag toss, ladder golf, super huge bubble makers, poi spinning, and croquet. The first 200 families will also get a free MRH flexi-frisbee.

Headed off to Bayless High School after thirteen years at MRH High School, principal Patrick McEvoy will certainly be missed. MRH Elementary principal Kathy Stroud will be retiring after four years in the district and 30 years as an educator. MRH Middle School interim principal Michael Maclin will return to his position as dean of students at the high school. That means starting this fall MRH will have three new principals.

Dr. Tony Arnold will take the reins at MRH Elementary. He has over ten years of education experience including teaching kindergarten and elementary classes. Most recently, he has served as assistant principal at Spoede Elementary in the Ladue School District.

Bob Dillon will become the new MRH Middle School principal. He arrives at MRH after serving as assistant principal at Nipher Middle School in the Kirkwood School District. Dillon has eleven years experience as a middle school assistant principal, three years experience teaching English/journalism at the high school level, and he has served as an adjunct faculty member at UMSL and Fontbonne.

After one year as dean of students at MRH High School, Kevin Grawer is stepping up to be the school’s new principal. Prior to coming to MRH, he served as the assistant principal of Hancock Elementary since 2005. He also has nine years experience teaching and coaching at the high school level.

The ice cream social will take place on the field in front of the MRH High School, 7539 Manchester Road, Maplewood. In case of rain, activities will be moved inside.
