Blue Devil Bees Win Award at State Fair
After more than a year of learning about the process of beekeeping, the middle school beekeepers took their work to be judged at the state fair. The annual Missouri State Fair in Sedalia brings together a large collection of top quality honey and other products created by bees to be judged against a rigorous criteria.
This year, the honey and honey products were entered two categories; the sealed honey, white, brood size frame category and the honey category. In the frame category, our bees brought home an impressive second place award. The Blue Devil Honey scored 87 points just three points from another ribbon.
The Blue Devil Honey project is led by teachers Kay Burbank and Bill Henske. Students interested in learning about this discipline and being involved with this award-winning program should contact either of these teachers. Our beekeepers are also involved with packaging honey, making lip balm and producing candles soap from our honey.
