Girls on the Track
Girls on the Run completed its first season at MRH Middle School under the direction of four volunteer coaches. Eleven girls from the sixth, seventh and eighth grades participated in a 10 week program aimed to teach girls the importance of healthy living and exercise.
Each practice had a lesson that was taught regarding such subjects as teamwork, dealing with stress, and conflict resolution and then exercises and activities to prepare them for a 5k run. As another part of the program, the girls took to the streets and collected 200 canned goods for Operation Food Search. The program ended with a 5k run in Forest Park on Saturday, November 12, 2011 where schools from all across St. Louis and Southern Illinois joined forces to celebrate girls and run (for some) their first 5k.
The MRH Elementary School will be offering the Girls on the Run Program in the Spring 2012 for third, fourth and fifth grade girls. To learn more about this program, visit www.girlsontherunstlouis.org.
