Educator and Author Ron Berger to Speak at MRH
Renowned educator and author, Ron Berger, will speak at MRH on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. in the MRH MS/HS Theatre. Berger’s presentation “Steps to Excellent Student Work” is open to all students, parents, faculty and staff, and community members.
“I first heard Ron Berger speak about his classroom over ten years ago when I was attending a conference on assessment at Harvard University and I was totally blown away by his work,” said MRH Superintendent Linda Henke. “As an elementary teacher, he was able to coax amazing things from his students. The commitment to quality was breathtaking.”
Berger has been a public school teacher in western Massachusetts for 25 years and is currently the chief program officer at Expeditionary Learning and responsible for all aspects of its professional development and instructional program. He has served in multiple roles, including school designer, regional director overseeing implementation in over 40 schools, and professional development designer of over 20 Expeditionary Learning Institutes.
Additionally, Berger has authored two books: An Ethic of Excellence and A Culture of Quality. He has over 30 years experience as a teacher, professional development designer, and project leader and works with Harvard Project Zero and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. He is a graduate of Hampshire College and has an EdM from Harvard University.
While visiting MRH Berger will also spend time touring the district’s schools and working one-on-one with teachers and administrators.
