MRH Elementary Prepares to Celebrate Black History Month
In the spirit of celebration of February as Black History Month, MRH Elementary School will join readers across the country by hosting the annual African-American Read-In on Thursday, February 9, 2012. The Read-In is sponsored by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English , and endorsed by the International Reading Association.
The MRH Elementary Diversity Committee has issued an invitation to members of our community to be guest readers at this cultural event. Guest readers will spend approximately thirty minutes in a classroom sharing a short story or poem authored by an African-American.
Reading ability is one of the key predictors of school success. How does one motivate your readers? There is no better way than developing a love of literature and understanding the importance of reading in everyday life.
If you would like to participate in the Read-In, please contact Cheryl O’Connor at (314) 644-4403 by January 31, 2012. If you have a grade level preference, please let her know (our school services grades 2-6.)
A light breakfast for readers will be served in the library at 7:30 a.m. and the Read-In will begin at 8:00 a.m.
Members of the Diversity Committee are:
