Metro Theater Residency Brings Fresh Perspectives
In Mrs. Sainz’s communication arts classes, the quarter three unit is titled “Solving the Problems of Our Global Village.” This unit examines some of the world’s biggest problems, the impact of these problems, and the potential solutions being explored. An overarching theme of this unit is that all people, problems, and solutions are connected.
To add another layer to this research unit, we are further examining these ideas through the lenses of drama and improvisation with the Metro Theater Company resident Ariana Moses. On January 12, Metro Theater Company began a six-week residency with the seventh graders in Mrs. Sainz’s classes.
Ms. Moses facilitates drama and improvisation activities that connect to our world problems unit, and then she reflects with the students through conversations on the significance of the activities and to deepen the understanding of the topics in this unit. The experience encourages the students to think and reflect in a different way on the very important topics surrounding our global village and the problems that we are facing.
