MRH Sixth Graders Participate in Area-wide Book Battle
More than 250 middle school students from the St. Louis area, including eight sixth graders from MRH Elementary participated in Pattonville Heights Middle School’s sixth annual Area-Wide Book Battle on May 8, 2012.
The Book Battle gives middle school students the opportunity to meet and discuss current books of interest that include a variety of genres and reading levels. The event is sponsored by the Pattonville School District with generous support from Scholastic Book Fairs and the St. Louis County Library. Thirty- two middle schools were represented to participate in the contest. The Battle is a trivia contest where students answer a series of questions about twenty books selected by the sponsors to be read by the participants.
“This was the first year that our MRH sixth graders entered the Battle! It gave them the opportunity to meet Heather Brewer,” said MRH Elementary librarian Teri Watkins. “Ms. Brewer is the author of The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod series. The first book in her series, Eight Grade Bites, was one of the twenty books that were read by students who participated in the battle.”
Watkins organized the small band of sixth graders who included Juanita Fiddmont, Yazmin Rivera, Alyza Clark, Hannah Wright, Lily Merello, Dougie Eilermann, Christopher Skaggs, and Robert Jackson.
