Exciting Staff Updates at MRH Elementary

New Staff
Please join us in celebrating the newest members of the MRH Staff. We are thrilled that these talented individuals are bringing their strengths and unique experiences to our community.

Jason Adams, Principal
Since 2009, Adams has been the assistant principal at Ross Elementary in the Parkway School District and is excited to begin leading the MRHE team. Prior to his time at Ross, he taught first and fourth grade at Tillman Elementary in the Kirkwood School District. Mr. Adams has a BA and MA degree in Elementary Education, an MA degree in Administration and will complete his Doctorate in Leadership and Administration this fall. He also completed graduate work in literacy and gifted education. Mr. Adams is deeply committed to building relationships and creating a school environment that celebrates diversity and strives for excellence!

Jonathan Strong, Assistant Principal
Mr. Strong is joining us from Confluence Academy, where he has most recently served as a Literacy Coach providing development and guidance for classroom teachers. Prior to this position, Mr. Strong served as a Title One Reading, Third Grade, and Fourth Grade Teacher. Mr. Strong has both a BA and MA degree and just recently completed his Education Specialist degree in Administration from Webster University.

Keith Griffin, Second Grade
Mr. Griffin is joining the MRH community from Atlanta, Georgia.  Prior to his time in Atlanta, Mr. Griffin was a volunteer for the Peace Corps and served students and families in Thailand. Mr. Griffin cherished the time he spent with his students in Thailand and is looking forward to building relationships with his new students at MRH.Mr. Griffin holds a BA degree from Oglethorpe University & his Masters from Washington University of St. Louis. While at Washington University, he completed his student teaching experience in the Webster Groves School District.

Lizzie Wiegert, Second Grade
Mrs. Wiegert graduated from St. Louis University with her BA degree in Elementary Education. She completed her student teaching experience at MRHE with Mrs. Peg O’Neal. After a terrific student teaching experience, Mrs. Wiegert became a permanent substitute in the 2/3 Looping Team. She is thrilled to be joining our team and is deeply committed to the mission and goals of the MRH community. 

Sarah Vogel, Second Grade
Mrs. Vogel is bringing seven years of experience to the MRH community. She is joining us from Austin, Minnesota where she taught 3rd grade. Before teaching in Minnesota, Mrs. Vogel taught 5th and 6th grade in St. Louis and Chicago. Mrs. Vogel completed her BS degree in Psychology and an MA degree in Elementary Education at Truman State University. We are pleased to welcome her to the MRH team!

Layne Glass, Fifth Grade
Mrs. Glass (Thompson) is a former graduate of MRH High School.  We are pleased to welcome her back to the community that she loves so much! For the past three years, Mrs. Glass has been teaching first and sixth grade at the Imagine Academy of Environmental Science and Mathematics in St. Louis. Mrs. Glass graduated from Southeast Missouri State University. She is excited to meet her new students and their families!

Genevieve Erker, 6th Grade Communication Arts
Ms. Erker was born and raised in the MRH community and is eager to return to the area. She graduated with a BA degree from Washington University of St. Louis. Following graduation, Ms. Erker enjoyed teaching in Guadalajara, Mexico and Chicago.  While in Chicago, she received her MA degree in Elementary Education.  Ms. Erker joins us from the Ritenour School District, where she has been teaching 4th grade for the last three years.

Daniel Harmon, 6th Grade Social Studies
Mr. Harmon grew up in Oklahoma, but has lived in St. Louis for the last few years. He graduated from the University of Missouri-St. Louis with a BS degree in education. Mr. Harmon is eager to build relationships with his students and thoroughly enjoys the teachable moments that occur each day in his classroom. He is excited to sport his Blue Devil gear, but will always be a loyal fan of the Oklahoma Sooners. 

Jeremy Mapp, 6th Grade Mathematics
Mr. Mapp attended Truman State University where he received an undergraduate degree in Psychology and an MA degree in Education. Mr. Mapp joins us from Captain Elementary in the School District of Clayton, where he served as an Educational Intern while completing his graduate work. He is originally from the St. Louis area and cannot wait until the first day of school!

Jennifer McGuire, 6th Grade Science
Ms. McGuire says “Aloha” as she joins us from Hawaii, where she has taught for the last 5 years. Ms. McGuire has a BA degree in Elementary Education and an MA degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in reading.  Prior to her time in Hawaii, she taught 6th and 8th grade science in the St. Louis Public Schools. Ms. McGuire loves teaching and is eager to begin her work with our new 6th graders!

Staff Members New to their Roles
Please welcome these two staff members to their new roles in the MRHE community. We are thrilled that our students will continue to benefit from their knowledge and support.

Katie Rengel, Instructional Specialist
Mrs. Rengel will join us in her role of Instructional Specialist. After serving as the Assistant Principal of MRHE for the past 4 years, Mrs. Rengel will now work closely with our Literacy Team to ensure the needs of all of our readers and writers are being addressed. She loves the MRHE community and is excited to continue her work with our students. 

Lesa Thomas, Counselor Intern
Mrs. Thomas will be transitioning to her new role as Counselor Intern at MRHE.  Prior to this new role, Mrs. Thomas served as a member of our Literacy Team where she worked closely with students to ensure they continued to grow as readers and writers.  We are pleased that Mrs. Thomas will continue to support our community in her new role as Counselor Intern.  In this new role, she will work closely with Mrs. Darst to serve as a resource for our students and families.

Long-Term Substitute Teachers
While we congratulate new arrivals, MRH Elementary is very fortunate to have veteran MRH teachers return from retirement to fill in during maternity leaves.

Lisa Williams, subbing for Erica Reardon
At this writing, the Reardon family is eagerly anticipating the arrival of their second child around mid July!     Ms. Williams will step in as a Reading Specialist until Mrs. Reardon returns from her maternity leave. Ms. Williams is no stranger to MRH, having taught Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades here for 27 years before retiring in June 2011.

Kathy Hammer, subbing for Rachel Kimberlin
Congratulations to Rachel and Wes Kimberlin on the arrival of baby Josey! Mrs. Hammer is looking forward to starting the school year with 3rd grade while Mrs. Kimberlin is on maternity. Mrs. Hammer is a familiar face at MRH Elementary, having taught here 16 of her 27 years before retiring 3 years ago. She has been a visiting teacher for us since her retirement.
