School as Studio News at the MRH Early Childhood Center
Using the arts as a vehicle for teaching is common practice at the MRH Early Childhood Center. Students are encouraged to explore learning through a variety of media such as: music, painting, photographs, drawing, dramatic play, dialogue and of course, dance.
After reflecting on the children’s work in Kindergarten andthinking more in depth about their interests, it became very clear dance and movement were recurring themes. From spontaneous partner dancing outside at recess, to movement breaks and singing the "Days of the Week" song to the tune of Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow," the children are very eager to learn more! To kick off first grade, the children went on a scavenger hunt to discover whatthey would be studying. They also created a dance identity board with a titled photo of their own signature dance move. Room 200 friends are ready to move, groove, and learn this year!
