MRH Announces Selection of New Middle School Principal

Michael Dittrich The Maplewood Richmond Heights School District is pleased to announce the selection of Michael Dittrich as the new principal at the MRH Middle School. Dittrich, currently the school’s assistant principal, will assume his new appointment on July 1, 2013.

“We are all delighted to have Michael take on this new role in the Middle School. In his time here at MRH, he has quickly shown his commitment to our students, teachers, parents and community as well as demonstrated his passion for helping our children achieve success both in and out of the classroom,” said MRH Superintendent Karen I. Hall.

“It is an amazing honor to be given this new opportunity to serve the children and families of the Maplewood and Richmond Heights communities,” said Dittrich. “We have an outstanding group of staff and parents that are positioned to help our students achieve even greater academic success and add to the already extraordinary learning opportunities at the Middle School.”

Dittrich joined the MRH Middle School in 2012 as its assistant principal and is serving as the interim principal through June 30, 2013. He was formally the assistant principal at Hancock Elementary in Hancock Place School District from 2002-2012. Dittrich has also worked as a sixth grade communication arts teacher and third grade at-risk teacher in the Hancock district. He received his B.S. from Southeast Missouri State University and his M.A. in educational administration and Ed.S. from Lindenwood University.

In 2012 Dittrich was named the Missouri Outstanding Principal and the National Outstanding Principal by the National Association of Elementary School Principals.  He has also been honored with numerous other awards including Special School District Special Ambassador and United States Congress Special Recognition for Outstanding Educator.

Dittrich was selected after an extensive search, which included four review and interview sessions, and nearly 30 panelists comprised of parents, teachers, staff, and administrators.

“We had many stellar candidates in the St. Louis area and from across the country. The fact that Michael rose to the top in each of our review sessions speaks to the outstanding work he has already done with our kids and the close connections he has made with our community,” said Hall. “His leadership will create a smooth transition for our students and staff, and his commitment and reputation for collaboration will provide them a successful learning environment.”
