"Under the Big Top" MRH Staff Opening Day
Before the first day of school every year, the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District sets aside a day strictly dedicated to a fun, team oriented, and welcoming event. Annually, MRH has an “Opening Day” event before the students return back to school from summer vacation. This activity-filled day, consists of all the staff, and administrators participating enthusiastically in various events. Everyone brought their Blue Devil pride as they enjoyed breakfast, team building activities, and welcome remarks from Superintendent Karen I. Hall and Board of Education President Francis Chmelir.
Every year there is a specific theme implemented into opening day. This year’s theme was “Under the Big Top,” a circus event. Everyone showed up dressed up in his or her best circus act attire and later a prize was awarded for the overall best costume. The winner this year was Janet Swallow from Food Services, for her full giraffe costume.
After breakfast, welcome remarks, and new staff introductions, guests were guided into the gymnasium, where the team building activities were set up.
The day was definitely eventful, but the underlying theme was to get the positive energy flowing as the staff prepares to jump into the new school year. Overall, the event helped to show just how much MRH supports and appreciates its staff for all that they do, and get them prepared to welcome the students back for an exciting and successful school year.
