MRH Becomes an A+ Designated School
Maplewood Richmond Heights High School recently became a designated A+ School. A+ is an academic program at select high schools that gives the students who meet the criteria an opportunity to receive A+ certification. By receiving the certification at the end of their high school career they receive a grant to participating community and technical colleges around the St. Louis area. Certain universities are also beginning to offer scholarships to students who are A+ certified.
A+ enrollment is completely voluntary. Students may participate in the program by completing and returning a signed A+ Participant Agreement. After this, the student is confirmed as an active A+ student. Upon confirmation into the A+ Program it becomes the responsibility of the student to meet all the requirements of the program to become eligible for the tuition reimbursement upon graduation.
If the student is accepted they must meet these requirements throughout their time in the program:
• 2.5 cumulative grade point average
• 95% attendance
• Pass Algebra I or higher level math proficiency course
• Less than six days suspension (in or out of school)
• Perform 50 hours of volunteer or apprenticeship service
Rich Nixon, MRH Athletic Director, is excited for this program and the opportunity that it will bring to the students at MRH. “Ultimately the responsibility falls on the students, it teaches them to work hard for this end result. I am so excited for the financial incentives that it provides for the students post-secondary education. A+ offers a real tangible opportunity for our kids to attend college, it’s a wonderful program.”
