MRH’s Middle School Student Nominated for Science Academy
Issa Alovor is an eighth grade student at Maplewood Richmond Heights Middle School. He was nominated by Scott McClintock, eighth grade science teacher, and accepted as a leader to the Academy of Science.
Academy of Science is an independent science organization. They have been the leader in the advancement and integration of science and technology into contemporary society. The Academy focuses on expanding scientific outreach, education, resource sharing, and the recognition of scientific accomplishment. The Science Academy focuses on a broad range of science, medicine, engineering and technology concerns.
More than 400 students from public and private middle and high schools experience hands on opportunities in science engineering and medicine.
The Science Academy holds events that allow the students to be present in the science lab, out in the field, or meeting with prominent scientist around the St. Louis area.
Alovor was extremely happy to be nominated. “You actually have to be nominated and chosen and they picked me, I was excited and so was my mom. We do a lot of challenging things at the academy like building a café or practicing medical situations,” said Alovor.
Alovor loves to play soccer, workout and draw. He is interested in science and engineering. He plans to attend Washington University in St. Louis after he graduates from high school.
