MRH Elementary Spellers Begin Studying Official Words for Spelling Bee
Nine newspapers collaborated to start the National Spelling Bee in 1925. Since that time the Spelling Bee has grown into “the nation's largest and longest-running educational promotion, administered on a not-for-profit basis by The E.W. Scripps Company and local spelling bee sponsors in the United States, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Department of Defense Schools in Europe; also, the Bahamas, Canada, China, Ghana, Jamaica, Japan and South Korea.” (see more About the Bee)
On Monday, October 21 MRH Elementary Librarian, Susie Weinstein, will provide the official study list of words to students who are interested in participating in the preliminary classroom test during the week of November 11-15. A school-wide spelling bee is to be scheduled in mid December with the winner going on to represent our school in the St. Louis Regional Spelling Bee in February. “We want the winner to have plenty of time to study before regionals so they can REPRESENT!” said Weinstein.
