Special Message: Closure of Martini Drive and Demolition of QuikTip Site
Dear MRH Parents and Guardians,
We received an update from QuikTrip on Wednesday that the site demolition at the northwest corner of Big Bend Boulevard and Manchester Road will begin on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. During the demolition process and initial construction phases, Martini Drive will be closed to all pedestrian and vehicular traffic at the northern property line of the new QuikTrip (just south of the gate entrance to the Middle/High School campus and athletic field). Additionally, the sidewalks along Big Bend and Manchester adjacent to the new QuikTrip property will be closed. To ensure additional safety, a fence will be erected around the entire demolition area.
To safely access the Middle/High School campus during these phases we suggest students, parents, and campus visitors use these alternate routes (access to the campus from the north side of the neighborhood will remain unchanged):
Pedestrians on foot or bicycles
- To cross Big Bend Boulevard (north of Manchester Road), use the crosswalk just south of Lyndover Place near the Clayton Sleep Institute. Students may use the school District's parking lot between the former Healing Arts Center and Rudman & Smith Law offices to walk/ride across and access the campus.
- To cross Manchester Road (west of Big Bend Boulevard), use the crosswalk at Oakland Avenue near Maplewood City Hall and access the campus by using the entrance near the tennis courts.
- From north or southbound Big Bend Boulevard, turn west on Rannells Avenue and then turn south (left) onto Martini Drive.
- From east or westbound Manchester Road, turn north on Bredell Avenue and then turn east (right) onto Lohmeyer Avenue.
To ensure the greatest level of safety, it is very important that all students walking or riding bicycles use designated crosswalks and not cut across these busy roads in any other areas. The District’s crossing guard will remain at the intersection of Big Bend Boulevard and Manchester Road but will be relocated to the southern side of Manchester. The District is also actively seeking an additional crossing guard.
At this time we do not know how long Martini Avenue will be closed. I assure you that the administration and I will monitor the project closely and keep you updated. Our primary goals continue to be the education, safety, and well-being of our District’s children and maintaining a safe school campus and neighborhood for our community.
