MRH Elementary Announces Winners of Building-Wide Spelling Bee
In late October, interested students were provided with the official list of this year’s spelling words to begin studying for the MRHE Spelling Bee. “We want the winner to have plenty of time to study.” explained MRHE Librarian, Susie Weinstein. The winner of the building-wide bee is expected to go on to represent MRHE at the Post Dispatch Regional Spelling Bee on March 1st.
Out of 44 classroom finalists competing in the first round of the bee, 5th grader Cameron Cole and 6th grader Maggie Otto tied, spelling 20 out of 20 eighth grade words correctly. “The list of words included panache, insinuate, erstwhile and lambasted,” recalls Weinstein. She described the nail-biting, second round competition as “tight and focused.” Congratulations to Maggie Otto, who will go on to participate in the regional competition. “All finalists did an outstanding job and will be acknowledged and celebrated at Friday’s Gathering on January 10th,” she added. Parents are welcome to attend.
