MRH Elementary to Reopen on Thursday, January 9, 2014.
Dear Elementary Parents and Guardians:
Thank you all for your support and understanding regarding today’s closing of the Elementary School due to a burst water pipe. We know this unforeseen emergency, coupled with the extreme winter weather in the region, has been challenging for our families.
At approximately 6:45 a.m. this morning a water line in our fire sprinkler system burst in the Seed to Table classroom (adjacent to the entry area) on the first floor. Within minutes, water had quickly spread to the school’s entryway, gymnasium, administrative offices, and part of the library. At 7:00 a.m., 15 minutes after the initial break and water was turned off to the campus, the decision was made to close the Elementary School and send an automated call to our families.
Buildings and Grounds crewmembers from all of our campuses, in addition to outside contractors, have been working diligently throughout the day to extract the water from the building and repair the sprinkler system. In addition to this break, we have also found a line break to an outside hydrant. However, this second break does not appear to be causing any of the internal issues.
As of 2:00 p.m., we have cleaned the affected areas and repaired the sprinkler system. Other than some flooring repairs and carpet replacement, we are ready to be open on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at our regular time. The Seed to Table classroom will require more extensive repairs and will not be used until those repairs have been completed. None of the grade-level classrooms were affected by the break.
We assure you the building is ready to be open and will continue to investigate the cause of these two line breaks. Our staff is eager to see our students back in school. We’ll be sharing more information with you soon about making up this day for our students.
Again, we thank you for your understanding. Please feel free to contact one of us if you have any questions.
