MRH Early Childhood Center Receives Generous Grant
Maplewood Richmond Heights Early Childhood Center was selected as one of 50 award winners from a pool of more than 3,000 inspiring applicants for the 2013 Subaru Healthy Sprouts Garden Grants administered by the National Gardening Association. The unique Seed to Table Program received a $500 Award Package. Seed to Table’s mission is to promote education, health and wellness by connecting children to the natural world. This program’s focus is on organic gardening, culinary arts, nutrition, farm animal care (chickens and rotating barnyard), environmental stewardship and global citizenship. Children at the ECC participate in Seed to Table curriculum for one hour every week.
According to the National Gardening Association, MRH Early Childhood’s Seed to Table Program was selected because of the exceptional nature of the work the program does. The ECC was recognized for their clearly stated goals, organized planning for the gardens, well developed structure for incorporating health and nutrition into the curriculum.
MRH and the specific program will be featured in a National Garden Association publication about this generous grant in the coming year. As a winner of this long-standing program, they want to highlight the important work that MRH is doing, and provide any notable progress about Seed to Table.
