MRH Elementary Preparing for Missouri Assessment Program Testing.
Each Spring, Missouri schools are required to administer the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) test in grades 3-8. Why do we have MAP testing? While schools grade students, the state of Missouri grades schools. MAP scores are a big part of the rating schools receive. The higher the scores, the higher the rating for the school. Students’ performance on the MAP test is categorized at one of four levels: Below Basic, Basic, Proficient, or Advanced.
MRHE students took part in Terra Nova testing in the first quarter of this school year. In past years, the Terra Nova and MAP were both given in April. “Having the Terra Nova this past Fall gave students and staff a chance to experience our building test protocol and should make the process of testing this Spring a little less mysterious,” shared Mary Darst, MRHE Counselor.
This year’s MAP testing window is April 7-17 between the hours of 7:50 and 11 a.m. Not all students will be testing the entire time but the building as a whole will be in testing mode (quiet signs on doors, desks separated, posters with information covered, no phone calls/announcements into the classrooms etc.) Students will be extra diligent about getting to school on time and being physically and mentally prepared to do their best. There have been lots of reminders to not be tardy on testing days. Students arriving after testing has started in their classroom will need to go to the cafeteria and then make up the test at a later time.
Parents can encourage their children to do their best by making sure they go to bed early and get at least 8 hours of sleep. Eating a healthy breakfast is advisable – as always MRH will be providing free breakfast to all students each morning. In addition, PTO will provide healthy snacks. Please consider not scheduling doctor appointments during MAP testing dates and take time to ask your child about testing at the end of each day.
