MRH Represented at Mizzou’s Original Music Program
University of Missouri’s New Music Initiative comprises different programs directed at younger composers. Creating Original Music Project (C.O.M.P) is a statewide competition that recognizes Missouri students (K-12) who compose original works in a variety of musical styles.
Sadie Tanner, third grade, and Jude Tanner, sixth grade, recently wrote musical compositions that won statewide recognition at C.O.M.P. that was held at the University of Missouri – Columbia. The Tanners created original pieces specifically for the program. Sadie took first place in the elementary song division and Jude received honorable mention in the middle school pop song division.
The program’s goal is to provide K-12 students in Missouri schools the opportunity to write original works in a wide array of musical styles and to present these pieces to their schools as well as at a music festival at the University. The Tanners will perform their compositions Friday, April 25, 2014 at the MRHE morning gathering.
Sadie and Jude attended the Festival on April 19, 2014. They brought home a monetary award and MRH Elementary will also be awarded $1,000 as a result of their accomplishments.
