Letter from Superintendent Karen I. Hall Regarding 2014-15 Student Transfers
Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s):
In August of last year, our district welcomed 42 students who transferred to MRH from the Normandy and Riverview Gardens School Districts. These students quickly became part of our MRH family, our traditions, and our community. I am so proud of the way our students, staff, parents, and community rallied around these children and embraced them with open arms. Once again, MRH is a shining example of inclusiveness and diversity.
As of July 1, the Normandy School District will be lapsed and become the Normandy Schools Collaborative. A Joint Executive Governing Board will administer this new district with members appointed by the State Board of Education. This change comes with new guidelines issued by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for the upcoming 2014-15 school year to augment the existing law regarding student transfers.
The new yearly tuition rate receiving districts will be paid, as directed by DESE, will be $7,236 per student from the Normandy Schools Collaborative. The MRH Board of Education voted on June 26 to accept this new rate for Normandy students and keep the existing rate for students returning from Riverview Gardens at $14,576 per student. In doing so, we expect to welcome back 10 students from Normandy and 17 from Riverview Gardens (a decrease from the 21 students from each district last year). All of the returning transfer students were here at MRH for the past school year.
These students are spread evenly throughout grade levels at MRH and allow us to maintain the small class sizes that we value as a community. Both Normandy and Riverview Gardens are current with their monthly payments to MRH for the last year and we fully anticipate these timely payments to be maintained.
The continuation of the transfer program will not alter MRH’s commitment to provide every student – both those who reside here and those who transfer to MRH – a high quality education. Our goal has been, and will continue to be, to do what is in the best interest of all our students.
We hope you continue to enjoy your summer break. We look forward to seeing all of our students back on the first day of classes on August 12.
Karen I. Hall
