MRH Welcomes Guests From Notre Dame
On Tuesday October 21, 2014 a group of 17 students from the University of Notre Dame visited Maplewood Richmond Heights School District. The students along with their professor, Maria McKenna, spent almost an entire day with various MRH administrators and visiting each school.
The group was composed of a class, The Landscape of Urban Education. They began their day with a welcome and presentation from Superintendent Karen I. Hall and toured Early Childhood Center, Elementary, Middle, and High School with Assistant Superintendent Roxanna Mechem. In their morning presentation, they learned a great deal about the history of the district, where it has been, its current state and future goals. They were instructed to be very conscious of the space of each school, the natural lighting, the metaphors, and many more elements that assist in making MRH unique. They concluded their tour by enjoying a lunch in the MS/HS Cafeteria and seeing how the gardens and produce are implemented into the school lunches.
“I have never seen a school district like this, everything is so unique and homegrown, my classmates and I were blown away starting at the Early Childhood Center and that was only our first stop. This visit really helped bring the topics that we are learning about in our class to life,” one student shared.
