Elementary Choir Visits Veteran’s Home
A group of Elementary School students who participate in choir with Dr. John Israel, Vocal Music Teacher, recently visited a local Veteran nursing home. This field trip was not just about fun, these students were learning how to share their talents in order to bring joy to other people. They put on an excellent and heartfelt performance for the men and women in the nursing home.
Some members of the crowd were even alumni and retired teachers of Maplewood Richmond Heights School District. The students sang a medley of songs that appealed to this particular audience. They sang some familiar tunes such as “We are Proud of our Veterans” and “America Weeps”. They also sang a song to commemorate the long-awaited change of seasons with the upbeat song, “Spring is Coming”.
Some of the Veterans were even seen singing along, particularly with one the crowd favorites, “Danny Boy”.
“These students were amazing and it was a real pleasure to have them. I actually grew up in the Maplewood area, so it is great to see these kids from there; it is especially fun to watch them embracing the arts. I really hope that they come back some time soon, everybody in the room enjoyed having them,” says one VA resident.
