Welcome Back Letter from Superintendent Karen I. Hall
Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s):
Welcome back! We hope you enjoyed your summer and time with family and friends. Our first day for K-12 students is Wednesday, August 12 and Wednesday, August 19 for Preschool. The beginning of each year is always an exciting time for all of us. The staff has spent the past few months preparing for our students’ return and we look forward to the many new learning experiences we will share with them.
Over the past 10 years our District’s enrollment has jumped nearly 24% and in April our community came together to support and pass Proposition K, which will allow us to build additional classrooms to meet the needs of our growing District. Our planning committee comprised of staff, Board of Education members, parents, and community members, is now in the process of selecting a construction manager for the project and creating the full design plans. As we move through this process, we’ll be sure to share more details of this exciting project.
Our administrative team, working closely with the Board of Education, continues to focus on budget restructuring in all areas to ensure every dollar is spent wisely and for the benefit of our students and their academic achievement. We will continue to monitor expenditures throughout the year to ensure we are maintaining our mission to “inspire and prepare students as leaders, scholars, stewards and citizens for a diverse and changing world.”
The accomplishments we have made together are numerous. This past year MRH was named a “District of Distinction” by District Administration Magazine and our High School was honored with the “2015 National Excellence in Urban Education Award” from the National Center for Urban School Transformation. MRH was the only high school in the United States to be honored as a “gold” winner. We will continue to maintain this level of excellence and provide the highest quality of educational instruction for our students.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and schools. I know 2015-2016 will be another great year for our District and community.
Karen I. Hall
