Students Learn “Zoo Phonics”
Students in Mrs. Sausele’s Kindergarten class are motivated to learn their letters and letter sounds. One way they do this is by engaging in a kinesthetic, multi-modal program called Zoo Phonics. Zoo Phonics teaches letter sounds by connecting each letter to an animal and a physical action.
After the students learned the Zoo Phonics animals and actions, they decided to make their own Zoo Phonics video as a resource for their parents and other members of their school community.
Kindergarteners then visited preschool classrooms to serve as “teachers” to assist younger students as they learn their letters and letter sounds. Kindergarten students have gained confidence and leadership skills as a result of this experience.
