MRHHS Thespians Attend Missouri State Thescon
Maplewood Richmond Heights High School student, Ben Speed, attended the Missouri State Thespian Conference this past weekend were he made it to the final round to recite his monologue for the entire conference. Steven Tronicek, junior, also competed and was rated superior.
Throughout the weekend conference, Speed was rated superior by the judges, he was then asked to perform in the final showcase for the entire conference, and only 10 groups/individuals were selected to perform.
During the conference they could attend workshops on different theatre related topics such as improv, stage combat, acting techniques, audition for scholarships for college as well as see performances by other students.
Before the final day, Speed performed two contrasting monologues, one from “Taming of the Shrew” and the other from “Death of a Salesman”. From that, the final “Top 10” were picked by their scores.
“It was so rewarding, especially for the students to see their fellow peers perform and compete, it really instilled in them hard work and it broadened their comprehension of all the possibilities that there are in Theatre. This is the first year that MRH kids actually competed and performed and as a result of this our students are so excited about next year,” said Emily Baker, Librarian & Tech Director.
