Highlighting 7th Grade Expedition
Seventh grade students ventured at United Provisions this week, an international food market in the Delmar Loop, as part of their exploration of “What the World Eats”. Students have been examining how environment shapes what people eat; how food creates culture, and how different cultures celebrate food. While at United Provisions, students met with the owner and enjoyed a tasting of various tropical fruits including papaya, dragon fruit, longan, and rambutan. Students also participated in a scavenger hunt around the store where they were tasked with finding unfamiliar items within various categories (vegetables, fruits, meat/fish, breads/grains, drinks, and desserts). After locating items, they also identified what country the food was from, the main ingredients, and a food from their own culture that is similar. The most popular aisles included ramen noodles of the world, unique drinks, and candies!
